January 2027: The Three Positions That Will Dominate the Window
Not strikers. This winter the market revolves around left-backs, deep-lying midfielders and ball-playing goalkeepers.
Winter windows are usually driven by emergencies. This year the three most-requested positions are not attacking ones.
1. Left-back
More sides invert the full-back in possession, turning the role into one that needs passing, not just pace. Supply is limited, so prices rise.
2. Deep midfielder who can pass
A destroyer is no longer enough. Teams want someone who receives under pressure and turns the attack in one touch. Those players are rarely sold unless a contract is expiring.
3. Goalkeeper who plays
The biggest change of the decade. A high-pressing side needs a keeper willing to stand outside the box, and those are scarce.
Fans should ask which type of player their club lacks structurally, not how many goals they need. That reads the market far more accurately.
